The
Gerstle River Bridge is in select company; it's only one of four "steel
through truss-style" bridges on the Alaskan Highway. It was built
in 1944. The river's origin is in the glacial area in the Alaska Range,
to the west, above, and top right. The river can be accessed from
both ends of the bridge. The east end area has a parking area with
trash containers. The northwest end has camping, outhouses, a trash
bin, and covered picnic table. A river level view is available. |
