Alaska-Canada Highways Highlights site is a place to explore historic
roads, towns, and geographical wonders of Alaska, British Columbia,
and Yukon Territory. I drove many of these highways in the 1999
summer, using still film cameras on that trip. I returned in 2016
with digital cameras to do a more thorough documentation. I cruised
the main and back roads the summers of 2016-18.
This first segment features the Alaska Highway; the historic main
artery from Dawson City BC to Delta Junction AK. Later segments
will cover other major highways and roads. All images in this section
were made with digital cameras. The content featured includes the
usual iconic scenes; but other subjects are included that are my
personal choices, or unique photo opportunities.
I refer to the Alaska Highway as the AlCan throughout the site.
The US Military used ALCAN in documents, later it was referred to
as the "Alcan." I decided to use a capital on the first
letter to honor both countries involved in the highway's creation.
Start the AlCan at "Mile 0;" click on Dawson Creek at
left. You may explore any segment of the route by clicking the arrows
at the bottom of each segment page.
