The telegraph line reached Dawson City at the height of the Klondike Gold Rush. The building is tucked under the southeast corner of the MacBride Museum.

Whitehorse became an important transportation route for the gold rush to the Klondike. In 1900 the White Pass & Yukon railroad tracks reached the town. Steamers ran the Yukon River from there.
